Facts about Österlenbyn
Järrestad has a quiet location since the national road 9 was pulled outside the community, but still so close that the bus connections are easy to reach.
Järrestad is a village with very old ancestors. In and around the village there are plenty of ancient monuments, burial mounds and rock carvings. Many historically interested people visit the fantastic rock carvings at Vilhelmsberg on the road between Järrestad and Gladsax where there are more than 550 figures carved in the hall.
The most talked about is the difficult-to-interpret carving Dancer. South of the community, Tommarpsån curls up, a today rather modest, salmon-carrying stream.
The railway runs through the village, but if you want to use Pågatåget you take the five kilometers to the station in Simrishamn. A walking and cycling path leads into the central town, where full service such as school, shops, hospitals are available.
