Karola Messner - Sculpture and Painting

Karola Messner is unique both as an artist and as a person.
She is the professor of skeletal biology who dropped out and became a full-time artist

Karola Messner's art is characterized by life-affecting power and energy.

Her wooden sculptures are astonishingly detailed and reminiscent of ancient carvings. Lars Epstein wrote in DN 2011 ”Karola Messner "Cycle of Life" just makes it, the spring salon at Liljevalchs worth a visit. A throng of figures carved in one piece from a linden stone defies the description. Must be seen."

She is also a skilled painter, Famous for its gigantic and fascinatingly detailed historical oil painting "World Theater". Also shown and much attention at Liljevalchs, 2015.
During Easter 2020, we show many of her sculptures and paintings.

We at GyllenGården want to give the art audience here at Österlen a unique experience.
On Easter Day, Karola Messner talks about her own art and her view of art and its importance to society. On April 12 at 14.30 p.m. XNUMX CET. Free entrance.

CV - A different career

Karola Messner was born in Munich in 1956 and wanted to become an artist in her early childhood. After graduation and subsequent guest studies at the Academie des Beaux Atrs in Paris, she noticed that her own creation was very different from the trend of the time.

She decided to rather study medicine, even though she was one of the very few to be admitted to the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.

After medical studies, she moved to Sweden, eventually becoming a specialist in orthopedics and a professor of skeletal biology and pathophysiology at the University of Health in Lindköping. Then the passion for art took over again. In 2002, she quit her professor position and became a full-time artist and writer.

In parallel with this, she, together with her husband Jan Gillquist, has built up "The Garden of Love" as by the magazine We in the villa selected as Sweden's most beautiful garden.
