KRISTINA MATOUSCH TRIP
Trip is Kristina Matousch's third solo exhibition at Galleri Thomas Wallner. The exhibition presents two new works created with the gallery room in Simris as a starting point.
The title work Trip is a sculptural floor-based installation of 232 sloping brass pipes that seem to penetrate the floor from below. The individual objects are placed so that together they form a vast unit that occupies the room. At the same time, the distance between them is large enough to emphasize the singularity of each individual, striving in a specific direction. The title of the work can of course be intended to stumble, travel or undergo a psychedelic intoxication and thus suggests an unintentional or uncertain movement.
Through is a series of paintings in which the tones of the sky become a number of monochrome. Each painting is made with a photographic model and the composition comes from a grid with round holes laid on top. The color points oscillate between creating an image space (perforating the canvas) and appearing as abstract points on the image surface.
Between the works, a synergy arises that strives outwards, through floors and walls, away from the prevailing. With Trip and Through, Matousch continues to explore spatiality, corporeality, will and desire.

My painting revolves around figures and rooms. My body has followed me ever since I started taking pictures, with its presence and relationship to the room. At the same time, I want to free myself from it and describe a body that is not pictorial. The characters develop together with an unknown form that sometimes approaches the imaginary. They are painted with colors, lines and fields. An arm or leg, and sometimes a face, meets a painterly shape and forms a fictional figure. The parts are closely connected to each other, where the body parts can be seen as tactile rods to the outside world. With their skin color, they can be experienced more naked and more physical in the encounter with the abstract shapes. The figures are often placed in simple rooms on tables, beds and floors. Where they take place and get their shape. The surfaces function as intimate scenes where the figure and the painting itself become clear. The scale is based on the hand and what we can touch, I see the figures as two-dimensional sculptures.
