Inauguration of Mottainai - An exhibition on recycling
18 Jun at 13:00 - 15:00Free
Artist Takao Momiyama grew up in a Japanese peasant culture before the consumer society began. Here was a living knowledge transfer that was based on utilizing small resources.
Mottainai is a Japanese expression that means something like: don't waste. The term names a philosophy of thrift. In recent years, the word has gained international attention and is used by environmentalists in various countries. The exhibition is about care and about patching and cooking with the help of the Japanese sewing technique sashiko, a traditional stitching technique. Repaired everyday garments and compositions are displayed. It is also about passing on a knowledge of taking care of things. Taking care of it takes time. Slow stitches; it is not wear and tear but instead wear and tear and layer after layer. Artist Takao Momiyama is present and tells about his works. Free entrance. NOTE! Maximum of 40 participants. For participation, registration is required to: firstname.lastname@example.org
The exhibition runs until 17/10.
