This year, HÖsterlenSalongen is adapted to the Corona virus. It will be different than before but also something very special! It will not be a jury-judged salon but a group exhibition with the five winners of the Gold Frame / Audience Award.
We call this year's salon the HÖsterlenSalongen Special.
We open on 19 September and are open Fri-Sun 11.00-17.00 until 11 October. We also accept scheduled visits at other times. Of course we keep our distance! To avoid possible infection, we recommend mouth protection.
hÖsterlenSalongen is a jury-judged art salon arranged by GyllenGården, located next to Österlen's geographical center, Smedstorp.
We started the HÖsterlen Salon in 2014 with the aim of enriching Österlen with an autumnal event for both artists and art lovers.
During the five years that HÖsterlenSalongen has existed, we, together with Ramgården in Lövestad, have each year awarded the Audience Prize. The award has gone to the artist who received the most audience votes for one of his works of art.
Our catchment area was initially only Österlen, but after pressure, we expanded in 2016 to include the whole of Skåne. The interest in HÖsterlenSalongen has been great and has spread widely throughout Skåne. We have received applications from Ängelholm in the north to Höllviken in the south and Lund in the west to Kristianstad in the east. The number of artists who applied to participate has gradually increased and at most 105 artists applied with almost 500 works. Our eminent juries have had a huge job to make their selection.
Jury members include Sven-Åke Ekberg, Madeleine Pyk, Astrid Sylwan, Frank Björklund, Sten-Malkolm Rosenlund, Dan Markdalen and Yvonne Larsson.
Presentation of the five artists
Adrian Johansson 1949–2019 Lund and Hagestad
Christer "Adrian" Johansson, paints with oil on canvas and panel, born and raised in Malmö. With my father's oil paints, I got rid of everything that the paint could stick to and as a fifteen-year-old I was sent to Skånska Målarskolan. It was the education in the subject that was available in the city.
A few years later I made my entrance at Målarskolan Forum. Then a creative view of the art of painting was born.
This was the real prelude to my painting. Adrian's painting is a personal imprint of a moment, right there and then, without values. It is a statement in the meeting between light and darkness. His painting describes a feeling that arises in these encounters. An atmosphere with strong contrasts in a semi-abstract expression. Adrian often sought his impressions among buildings that with their angularity gave a slightly harsher drama than that in the softer language of nature. New York city was for a long time a great source of inspiration. In recent years, his paintings became darker and nature more present.
Louise Villa - 1974 Lund
Born 1974 and now living and working in Dalby outside Lund. She has always painted and started exhibiting in 2013. Since then, there have been many exhibitions around Sweden and also abroad. Louise paints in oil and acrylic but is now working on putting different layers of paint on top of each other, letting them dry and finally applying the color that should be on top (usually umbra) and scraping in it until she gets a motif that the background shines through . A kind of transparent expression.
“For this expression - I feel - fine-tuned, beautiful motifs fit, so I have worked a lot with beautiful women and flowers. I hope to deepen my expression over time and be able to start working with life's other expressions such as loneliness, loss, decay and other more serious moods, but for now I stay in the dream of the eternal flower garden and the gods who wander there. " My first scratched work "The garden princess", can be seen at the fantastic Saatchi gallery in London. They have a screen where several hundred images are rotated.
Sonja Andersson - 1946- Glemmingebro
In my painting, I am largely self-taught. Painting in oil with a knife is significant to me. I was born and raised in Borrby and have always lived in Österlen. After many years of working with color and form in home decor, I chose, 14 years ago, to start a new period in life. A period where my painting would get the prominent place I always dreamed of.
I am fascinated by Vårhallen's rock formations, where the great forces of nature have created the images whose message I want to convey in my painting. Being able to reproduce the feeling and colors in the boulders, the balance and the three-dimensionality in the pictures constantly inspires me to new challenges. This way of painting also reappears in other motifs in my art.
Hans Elander - 1950- Hagestad
Nature constantly reminds us. Everything changes.
My painting is about depicting everyday things that were once important and full of dreams, but which now rust away in what has long been forgotten. Educated at the School of Art in Stockholm and the primary school for artistic education.
An entire professional life in form and design. Lives in Hagestad Österlen.
Kathrin Bernekorn - 1955- Brantevik
I have been living in Brantevik on Österlen in Skåne for a few years now, where I have my studio and my Gallery Bernekorn. I thus live in an inspiring environment close to the sea and the beach, which is my favorite motif. The sea that is constantly changing based on season, weather and light conditions. I like to paint large paintings as I believe that the magnificent nature comes out best in large format. Also paints other things: Forests, gardens, landscapes and animals and then preferably horses. I paint mainly in oil but also watercolor, two completely different techniques that enrich each other and give me variety. Regardless of technology, it is the creative process that is essential to me. A kind of equation where it is a matter of getting color, shape, composition and feeling to work together. My ambition is for the painting to feel alive and reflect my impressions in a credible way.
Diligently uses my artistic freedom and paints freely according to impressions. Attaches great importance to the light in the painting, which largely creates the atmosphere in the painting.
