Lecture by Martin Dackling

Martin Dackling is an associate professor of history at Lund University. In his research, he has focused on issues of family, inheritance and property. The dissertation The origin of the family farm. Land and market in Skaraborg 1845-1945 highlighted changing conditions and ideals for generational changes and showed how the traditional family farm was rather a modern invention.

In the book Instead of marriage. To run a farm together with siblings in 1900th century Sweden he showed how it became common for a period of time for agriculture to be taken over and run together by unmarried siblings. He has also analyzed the changes in inheritance law in Scandinavia and is now researching the history of the fideicommission.
