Facts about Österlenbyn

Bjärsjö

Secluded location yet so close. Just west of Simrishamn, down at Tommarpsåns winding course, lies little Bjärsjö. A city that once had both a brewery and a large grain company. Today, roots and calm rule on both sides of Tommarpsån, which was once sailable all the way to the medieval city Tumathorp. The fact that people have lived in Bjärsjö for a long time shows ancient remains of various kinds.

The Bronze Age tomb Kvesehöj / Kvex high and Pittjestenen are fantastic examples. Kvesehöj may not look so impressive, but from the top you can see in the weather more than a dozen church towers around the plain. Via the Bialitta Road you reach fast Gröstorp from where a pedestrian and bicycle path leads into school and high school. The distance to Simrishamn is about two kilometers along the old national road 9.
