Annual Chronicle 2020 - about the year that has been in Österlen

70 road in österlen - annual chronicle 2020
Posted December 31, 2020

In times like these, as Coronan has once again taken a firm grip on the whole country, it feels like an important opportunity to actually look back on what has been positive this strange year. A year that has really shown that Österlen is facing a very bright future! When the rest of the country has been hit hard by the effects of the pandemic, Österlen's appeal has become even stronger. Never before have more tourists or newcomers been attracted by Österlen's beauty and quality of life!

Winter 2020

The year actually started fairly normally. But already at the beginning of March, the corona situation began to become noticeably noticeable for the tourism entrepreneurs in Österlen.

Spring 2020

A crazy beautiful spring - seldom have the fruit trees bloomed as much as this year and of course the rapeseed fields shone yellower than ever before - but in principle completely empty on Österlen. The only thing that shone brighter than the rapeseed fields was probably the lack of tourists on Österlen!

Österlen - you could live here!

When everything felt most gloomy this spring, at the beginning of April, we launched a campaign on social media to get people to move to our fantastic municipality! The basic idea was that life must look a little better in beautiful, spacious Österlen than living in a second home in a big city suburb with the subway as best friend.

And it turned out that these thoughts de facto contained more than a grain of truth. Rarely have we seen such a move to Österlen as in 2020. Something that also led to a substantial price increase in the Österlen real estate market! But even if the prices of houses have increased during the past year, it still feels like a cut compared to the prices in the big cities!

Meet the spring at Österlen

A few weeks later, we launched the campaign - "Österlen package in Corona times" - where we collected Österlen's very best corona-secured packages. And the timing could hardly have been better. Despite the fact that the film was only shown on social media, and without any actual marketing budget, it was seen by more than 100 unique visitors!

You could live in the east

Summer 2020

In connection with Löfven presenting the easing of travel restrictions at the beginning of June, the starting shot was also fired for what would be perhaps the craziest summer (and autumn!) In human memory here in Österlen.
The summer weather attracted people to swim and even though we have more than XNUMX km of beaches down here with us, there were sometimes a lot of problems with parking at beaches such as Knäbäckshusen and Sandhammaren!

Autumn 2020

September and October were perhaps the months that really showed that Österlen's gravity de facto increased markedly in the wake of the pandemic. Tourists and newcomers continued to flock to Österlen!

September Exhibition 2020…

Even just before Easter when it became clear that the traditional art round by ÖSKG, plans were forged to launch a new accounting event at Österlen. But then with a focus on making art more visible to everyone who visits Österlen during the high season - Österlen Summer Art Fair! For various reasons, however, we decided to jump on Thomas Wallner's idea of a high-quality art project in the autumn. What would later become known as September exhibition.

To be the first year, and given that the Coronan made it difficult to add peripheral activities, it must be said that the exhibition was a formidable success! The films that marketed the event were seen by more than 30 people and not least Kristianstadsbladet and our local newspaper Ystads Allehanda wrote column meters about the event. Maybe not so strange as a more well-known line-up of artists was probably the strongest ever at Österlen!

So despite the lack of the formidable highlight of the autumn - the Apple Market - the hotels and restaurants were filled to an even greater extent than in a normal year! And from an artistic perspective, it can be stated that the craving for oriental art is stronger than ever! Already after the first weekend, the audience records were broken at several of the participating galleries! Owe Gustafson, Börje Lindberg, Niels Bonde, Mats Theselius, and another 35 of Sweden's most famous contemporary artists with an Österlen connection!

… And 2021!

After this year's success, we can therefore already now reveal that there will certainly be a new edition of the event next year as well - the September exhibition 2021.

And, if it then becomes a Summer Art Fair 2021, at the time of writing it also looks a bit enticing! One thing is for sure: ÖSKG's art round will at least start the season just in time for Easter!

The slopes on the east side

As you can see, a lot is happening here in Österlen

and we at Destination Österlen work actively both to try to maximize the high season, but above all to create new travel opportunities outside the classic high season.

As we who run österlen.se without either municipal or regional money, we have put our foreheads in deep folds to find new ways to develop both our website and Österlen.

Therefore, we can now reveal that in 2021 we will add the opportunity for you as a visitor to book both rooms and packages as well as activities directly here via our website - österlen.se. With more than 500 unique visitors a year, it feels a little strange, to say the least, that until now we have not been able to offer you to buy anything inside our store!

And yes, by skipping booking channels like booking.com and hotels.com do you also support the industry here in Österlen when you book through us! With the market's lowest commissions and where all surplus is used to market Österlen's gold nuggets, you support all companies in Österlen by booking your favorite hotel in Österlen via us.
